A great crowd totaling over 40’000 people watched the successful series in 2016. So it was a ‘no-brainer’ for many local boards to keep those popular events running. Again there are 22 parks staging 22 different movies from Waiuku in the south to Albany in the North and from Beachlands to Henderson covering the Auckland Region.
The program is again diverse, with a bulk of family flicks. But again, with ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ and ‘Born to Dance’, there are two local productions in the line up.
“The Event Delivery of the Auckland Council’s Community Development, Arts & Culture Department has done again the hard work in co-coordinating the wishes of the now 22 local boards involved and managing a great program”, comments Urs Bauer, Director of Open-Air Cinema Ltd. “It’s fantastic to see how our event grew from a couple of short film nights at Vicotria Park in 2007 to this wonderful event”, adds the initiator of the event, which now is going into it’s 10th season.
